The problem with promise is that it is simply not achievable.

Real is the shopping in the supermarket.
Real is the school run or the blocked up sink.
Real is the neglect that busy lives bring.
Real is the unhappiness that everyone has, don’t they?

The promise of devotion which reduces you to tears.
The promise of love which wraps around your soul.
The promise of appreciation that knows no bounds.
The promise of heightened arousal.
The promise of forever.
The problem with promise is that it is not real.

Real is knowing that the affection is loaded with expectation.
Real is holding the hand today that strikes you tomorrow.
Real is enjoying the brief calm which rocks like a tiny raft on an ocean of chaos.
Real is knowing that the life you are in is the life you deserve.

The promise of passion which colours entire skies.
The promise of a parent who owns serenity.
The promise of love which furnishes the room you sit in.
The promise of hands that never stray beyond a caress.
The promise of forever.

The problem with promise is how can it possibly be achievable…
